THE RITUAL OF RELAXING

“Self-care” gets thrown around a lot these days, and I’m obviously one of the throwers. It’s just the easiest way to describe taking some time to do something just for you. It can literally mean anything- napping, taking a walk, meditation, eating a bowl of ice cream, or taking a long relaxing bath…seriously, anything that makes you happy & focus on you.

This year has been a lot…like, a lot, a lot. With all of the stress, anxiety, and uncertainty around us, there have been quite a few elaborate self-care sessions at my house.

Self-care for me usually means an elaborate skincare routine, a warm bath, and a great playlist. When I take time out to focus on myself, and what I need, I want my whole space to feel different than it did 5 minutes ago, when I was working on an order or doing the dishes. A great playlist can instantly transform the ambience in your space, and in turn your mood. Music has the incredible ability to transport you to a different place or time, remind you of someone you love, or to change your entire state of mind within 30 seconds of a song.

One of my favorite past-times is making mixes for my friends. I used to (getting ready to age myself) sit at my desktop, downloading albums, meticulously picking out songs & creating a whole mood by the order I put them in…then (wait for it) I’d burn them onto a CD, decorate said CD with a sharpie & deliver them to friends/crushes/whomever. Most of the time that mood was emo…I was a teenager in the early 2000’s, what can I say? When my husband and I first started dating, I made him a mixed CD scrapbook…with 16 hours of music, that covered his road trip journey from Michigan to South Carolina…basically, what I’m telling you, is I’m a huge nerd & my husband fell for it.

Aaannnyway…all of this got me thinking about what I listen to when I just need to calm my mind, space out, and relieve the stresses of the day. So, I created a playlist for you! I know it’s not as pretty as a Sharpie decorated CD, but I don’t have a CD ROM drive anymore (insert sad face).

The Trance Playlist was inspired by our Trance Milk Bath, which is a relaxing blend of lavender and chamomile. It’s the perfect addition to a self-care session, when you’ve had a long day at work or you’re feeling especially anxious (which in these time, happens more often than not).

So, draw a warm bath, add Trance Milk Bath, light some candles, hit play, and enjoy some much needed YOU TIME!
