Self-Care is a Whole Mood: Freyja Edition
We could all use a little romance from time to time, even if that’s just treating ourselves to a romantic night at home. Treating yourself kindly, talking to yourself gently, and listening to what your mind, body, and soul need is just about the most romantic gesture you can give to yourself.
I’m guilty (far too often) of overdoing it, ignoring what my body is telling me she needs, and talking harshly to and about myself. Most of us are our own biggest critics, and sometimes it takes other people to point out how cruel we are bing to ourselves. I’ve tried a little trick, telling myself if I wouldn’t say it about my best friend, mom, or sister, I don’t get to say it about myself…I definitely still have a long way to go, but I will forever be a work in progress.
When I’ve been too harsh on my body- whether I’ve been eating poorly, not getting enough rest, staying stationary for days riddled with anxiety, or constantly on the move without a break (also riddled with anxiety, because it’s a lifestyle)- I like to put on some sexy tunes, light a shitload of candles, pour myself a glass of wine, and take a relaxing bath.
The intoxicating blend of rose and sandalwood in Freyja helps to promote relaxation, boost self confidence, and acts as a natural aphrodisiac. The deep floral and woodsy scent is the perfect companion for a romantic night of treating myself like the goddess I am.
Occasionally, I pair a hydrating face mask, like Aphrodite, with this romantic self-care session. But, more often than not, I just want to close my eyes and enjoy the soothing sounds of Leon Bridges or Etta James, while I soak away the bullshit. In these times, I grab my relaxing lavender Moon Phase Eye Pillow, drape it over my eyes, and zone out in my calming romantic oasis.
2020 has been way harsh on all of us- whether you’re struggling with having gained some quarantine weight, are anxious about returning to work and our new “normal”, have had to have some tough conversations with (or even cut-off) family members or friends due to the trash heap our country seems to be currently (BLACK LIVES MATTER. Science is real. Wear a mask.) or any number of other things this year may have thrown your way- and we could all use a little extra care, so I wanted to create something that everyone could enjoy. I was inspired by the sultry aroma of Freyja Milk Bath, and by the goddess for which it is named; Freyja, the Norse goddess associated with love, beauty, and sex.
I put together this sexy soothing playlist, in hopes that it would encourage you to take yourself on a date- light some candles, hit play, pour yourself a glass of wine, treat yourself to a delicious dinner, draw a warm bath, and most importantly treat yourself kindly, talk to yourself gently, and listen to what your body needs. And always remember: YOU, my dear, are a goddess!
What’re your favorite ways to romance yourself? Do you have a favorite song from the playlist, or one you think I should add?
